thank god for two thousand and eight

Ok so I know I haven't neccessarily been posting pictures of my current style so no one truly knows what kind of clothing I wear nowadays. Some girl stole my camera, took it to her grad (there were family pictures on it), and when my guy friends asked her to give it back she refused. She was five feet away from me, literally. Eventually she gave up and handed it to him, and it took her several hours and a lot of alcohol to walk up to me and apologize. Recently I've been swimming in school work and gotten lazy on my outfits, but the one night I spent at least an hour on my outfit, she had my camera. Blah blah blah, I know I keep making excuses, but I've honestly had the worst luck with this camera. I'd estimate that half of it's short little life it has been missing. Then again, I'm known as the one that loses, forgets, and breaks everything. Basically, a klutz. And as you can see, I'm quite the rambler.

Today I was looking through old pictures and stumbled across this one.

This was taken at the beginning of my second year of high school, also known as fall 2006 and needless to say I'm surprised at how drastically my style has changed. Half of those clothes are probably hanging in a thrift shore somewhere. This was a time where I was scene-obsessed and listening to 'Panic! at the Disco' like I needed it to survive. Then, I wouldn't be caught dead in a thrift store, let alone anything vintage. Basically, I was an entirely different person.
It's times like these I am so glad that stage is over. I guess this outfit doesn't look that bad from this angle. But if you saw the shirt, you'd be laughing too.

all the girls standing in the line for the bathroom

One more thing I forgot. May 21st, three of my friends and I went to the "Glow in the Dark" tour, and it was absolutely amazing. After much contemplating, I snuck past security and ended up in the fourth row (with about half of my school). The night before, we all got together and made t-shirts for the event, and this is what turned out...

'Drunk and hot girl' refers to a song title if anyone is unfamiliar. It was a bit weird walking by people in the streets of Toronto with these shirts, who had absolutley no clue there was a song titled that. Lets just say we got some looks. And when I say looks, I sincerely mean it.

white horses, they will take me away

I had a moment a couple nights ago when I suddenly wasn't lazy and decided to go on Polyvore to celebrate. To start off though, about a week ago, while researching the 1950's fashion era for a grade 12 English presentation I discovered this absolute beaut.

How perfect is that skirt? I'm having a stage with florals (when do I not), and this defines beauty. That woman doesn't know how truly lucky she is to have that. I hate looking at pictures from previous eras simply because I know I would never be able to live it. We live in an era where the media is so consumed in looks and drama and not the real stuff- fashion. I'm surrounded by Hollister and Abercrombie and The Hills and Hot Topic and unneccessary amounts of makeup... simply put, a society consumed in absolute trash. Oh, now I'm rambling... only I could get from the topic of a floral skirt to emos in less than three sentences.

The whole objective of this post is to show a "re-creation" of this floral skirt, with a bit of 1920s in there as well.

I have a fitness exam tomorrow that I haven't started studying for yet though, so I will catch up later. I'm contemplating leaving blogspot for devote, because there's much more flexibility in the layout. And I want a floral background.

absolutely breathtaking

Gah ! I can't believe I haven't seen this dress before. The lovely Kate Bosworth wore this Chanel couture dress to the Costume Institute Gala this year, and it's to die for. I mean seriously, how does one create such a thing? It's outfits like these that makes me remember how much of a genious Karl Lagerfield is. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes political and runs for president.

I'd vote for him.

she's getting up there

Kirsten Dunst seems to have garnered my attention recently, and an outfit that contributed to it immensely is the one she wore to the Costume Institute gala. The vintage Yves Saint Laurent dress looked amazing on her. In additon to that gorgeous number...

2005 Oscars wearing Chanel couture

Spiderman 3 premiere in Paris wearing Christian Lacroix

Spiderman 3 premiere in London wearing a lovely outfit, and unfortunately I can't find the designer of it. Help?

I've also noticed her street style is uncanny with Alexander Wang's Spring 2008 ready to wear line. She's starting to climb my inspirational list. It's kind of hard to trump the Olsen twins, though.

On a side note, after school ends I promise to start posting pictures of my outfits! At this point, dressing up is my last priority. Plus I really need to go shopping :)

kudos to terry richardson

I'm in the process of watching the season finale of Lost right now, so I'm going to make this post brief. The photoshoot of Lara Stone in "Sunset Boulevard" (this month's issue of Vogue Paris) is s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g. I'll post some of it later.

Here is one of my favourite pictures.

Love love love love love.

steady later, alligator (or a while, crocodile)

I won't be posting here often until the summer, when I have spare time. By that time, I will have renovated my closet (figuratively) and I will be taking picture on a regular basis (hopefully). At the moment I have a lot of homework, so I have to make this short and sweet.

I have recently, as recent as ten minutes ago, discovered this gorgeous piece from Miu Miu's Spring 2008 Ready to Wear line.

Give me a minute to drool.....

Minute's up.

reborn, or something like it

I think I'm going to start using this blog more often now. I've been writing over at livejournal, but it's getting a tad boring there. I've been so inspired by all of these fashion blogs to come back here and write strictly on fashion (well not that strict, but you get the point). I'm getting so sick of the clothes in my closet. I'm always trying to spice things up by rummaging through my mom's closet. Speaking of her closet, it is heavenly. Her skirts are to die for. I wore a long red skirt out last weekend and she went mental when she saw it on me. Yet she hasn't worn it for years. I don't think she has touched over half of her clothes in years. The beautiful clothes too! She's gone from fashionably inspirational to looking like Carmela Soprano.

Anyway, I've been having a shoe dilemma for quite some time. I've been searching for gladiator sandals ever since I saw these beauties on Mary Kate Olsen.

These 2007 resort Chanel gladiators are the epitome of life. The thought of them drive me insane. I need them that bad. I've been searching for a pair like this for ever. I've even resorted to online shopping, something I am a virgin to. I hope to god I get sandals like these before summer starts. This is now my goal.

Before I leave and do my homework (I'll be back here in about ten minutes due to lack of incentive), here are some of my favourite street style outfits I've seen recentely.

philosophy is a great high ruiner

There's a movie I watched last night, stoned. A philisophical film called "Waking Life". When the high toned down a bit and I stopped focusing on the weird and funny shapes the people speaking took, I began to listen. The people were still distracting, so I didn't get a whole lot out of it. What I did understand (and remember) were a few things. Firstly, our communicational skills are derived from our want to communicate our thoughts. Most of what we process in our heads is never known by others, trapped away. Thus our thrive for communication, to share these thoughts with the outside world. There was more to it, but that was all I understood. Her face shape was too amusing. Secondly, how do we decipher our awake state from our dreaming state? In which are we actually awake? Our dreams are an expansion of our imaginations. Thirdly, why can we not reach our full potential in creation and art and such? Is society simply fearful or just lazy? Our dreams are somehow that tucked away potential that we can achieve. Where we reach our fullest potential. So why can't we do it in the real world? Lastly, the biggest philisophical question of all. Where do we go when we die? This movie makes the post mortal state to become a never ending dreaming state. Where you can never return and reach your full potential. Others say that it's reincarnation in this movie, but they argue it. I just don't remember how. Here is an excerpt of the movie, about our communcational behaviour and our thoughts and language.

I've been rambling on for too long.
I'm going to go watch it again and recap what I missed.

gondry is to film what parisians are to fashion

I am in love with Jon Brion and his work on the "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" soundtrack. "The Theme is so undescribable. It's so ordinary yet magnificent. It's difficult to put into words. Electric Light Orchestra's "Mr. Blue Sky" is just as good. My mother could have just died and it would still have me on my feet singing along. Seriously. This soundtrack is absolute genious.

Don't even let me begin about the movie. Michael Gondry is an absolute God. He has inspired me so much. I am actually contemplating going into film (or using film as an art) because of him. Everything he does is so artistic, so depressing, so beautiful. This movie makes me cry and laugh and so many other things I simply can't think of. He is so easily compared to Burton and Kubrick, with the exception of murder and rape and all that jazz. Either way, I just want to give Gondry a big hug.

Another director that has caught my eye is Spike Jonze. I was watching Bjork's "It's Oh So Quiet" video and I was convinced Gondry directed it. Instead, I discovered Jonze, who also directed "Y Control" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The video gives off the vibe of insanity, which is exactly what I think of when I hear YYY. He also directed "Get Back" by Ludacris, and surprisingly he made a rap video work out to my likings (there were no half-naked women in it). I have a crush on his directing skills. But he's no Gondry.
